How To Participate
Lead and Featured Roles
The lead and featured roles for the 2025 Nutcracker in a Nutshell were cast after the June auditions. .
Lead and featured roles are by audition only.
The following are audition roles: Clara, The Nutcracker The Sugar Plum Fairy, The Dew Drop Fairy, and Reindeer Leader.
Youth Ensemble
Any registered JCDA student in the following classes and levels can register to participate in the correlating dances (you must register to participate by October 3rd) See the registration at the top of the page for details.

Level 1 & 2 Ballet: Waltz of the Ice Skaters

Level 1 & 2 Hip Hop & Jazz: Elves/Reindeer Battle

Level 3 & 4 Jazz: The Nutcracker Suite

Level 3, 4, &5 Ballet: Waltz of the Flowers

Creative Movement (4 year olds): Dance of the Butterflies

Rising Stars (5 year olds): Dance of the Bakers​​
Adult Ensemble
Any Parent, Alumni, or Jersey City Community Member can participate in:
Opening Party Scene Dance
Adult Ballet (must be registered for the 6 week class workshop: Dance of the Holiday Shoppers

Rehearsal Schedule
Adult Ballet, *Creative Movement, and *Rising Stars will learn their dances during their regularly scheduled class time.
