Policies & Procedures

Our 1st priority is the health and well-being of our staff and students. To ensure we keep them safe we will adjust our policies and procedures as needed to ensure we meet or exceed government regulations and best practice guidance.

  1. Health-Any parent or child refusing to adhere to safety guidelines will not be allowed in the dance studio until you adhere to the guidelines. No refunds for missed classes.

  2. Auto Pay-Due to class size limitations all new clients must be on auto pay & the term will be one dance season September –June (VIP is June–June)

  3. Missed Classes-If a class is missed you may make it up if, and only if, space is available in that classes due to limited space being available. If you need to make up a class, you must make a reservation to ensure space is available. Call the studio to schedule. VIP members have 1st choice. Available space is first come, first served and there are no guarantees space will be available. There are no refunds for a missed class. 4 extra classes are built into the schedule to account for illness and snow days if you begin in September.

  4. Alternate locations-In an event where we are unable to hold classes in person at the dance studio alternate arrangements will be made. This could include but not limited to, outdoors, an alternate location, or online using a service like Zoom. Your contract is for dance classes by Jersey City Dance Academy not the location of the classes.

  5. Class Viewing-Classviewing is not allowed due to social distancing.

  6. Early Childhood–one parent/guardian is required to remain in the studio during class. No others are allowed.

Financial-JCDA is an annual program and you have a contract for the entire dance season. A bundle is the combination of tuition, costumes, and a recital t-shirt into 12 installments which are due on the 1st of the month. For installments made after the 5th of the month a $25.00 late fee will be assessed. Installmentsnot paid by the end of the month will result in a student being suspended from class & may not return until the outstanding balance is paid. Bundle payments are not refundable. All tuition and costume payments are not refundable. You are guaranteed a minimum of 30 classes for the year if you register by September. All fees are per student. Annual registration fee for all students is $50.00 through 9/30. A late registration fee of $55 applies after Oct 1st. Installments are payable by Auto payment, online, cash, check or credit card (MC & Visa). All credit card payments are subject to a 2.99% credit card convenience fee. ACH-If you enter a bank card for your checking or savings instead of a credit card you will only be charged .75% fee instead of the 2.9% fee charged for credit cards. Make checks payable to: Jersey City Dance Academy, Inc. or JCDA, Inc. (Please write student’s name in memo area of check.) Balances more than 60 days past due will be sent to collection. Returned checks & charge backs will be assessed a $30.00 fee.

Costumes-Costumes are part of a yearly contract and once you choose to be in the recital you can not opt-out and not pay for costumes. A costume is required for your child to participate in the recital. A sizing letter will be mailed/emailed by the first week of November. It is the parent's responsibility to make sure the size is appropriate for their child and return the signed form. If the form is not returned to the studio, we will order the size listed on the sizing sheet. If the costume does not fit when delivered, the parent will incur all costs for replacement, exchange or alteration. Costume payments are not refundable. It is your responsibility to make sure the correct size is ordered.

Cancellations/Withdrawals-JCDA is an annual program. You may not cancel the contract. Withdrawl from class does not end your contract.

Attendance-Good attendance habits must be maintained to keep up with the classes. This is done for the benefit of both the student and the entire class. Poor attendance slows the class down because of the need to repeat prior lessons. If a student misses more than 1/3 of the classes she/he will not be eligible to move up to the next level when applicable. Refunds will not be given for missed classes. Please notify the studio when a student will be absent.

Make-up classes–There are no discounts or refunds for missed classes.

Punctuality-We understand that being late is sometimes unavoidable. However, a student who is more than 15 minutes late for class may be asked to observe the class rather than participate. The final decision is at the sole discretion of the instructor. This is not done as a disciplinary measure, but for safety–especially where higher-level classes are concerned. A student who misses the first few exercises runs the risk of being injured by not being properly “warmed-up”.**Students who are picked up more than 15 minutes after the end of their class will be assessed a $5.00 fee for every portion of 15 minutes thereafter. This charge will be directly assessed to your account.

Attire/Uniform-Students must dress in a uniform manner for class. No attachments, prints & skirts are allowed. (see required Dancewear) Please avoid extras:

  • No jewelry, sweat pants, t-shirts, shorts, costumes, tutus, or street clothes are allowed in class other than required dancewear.

  • Instructors may request students to remove inappropriate items as listed above. If the student does not comply with the instructor's request then they may not participate in class.

  • Hair should be neat and pulled away from the face. Ballet students should have their hair in a bun.

Early Childhood Program–Pre K-Gym, Tiny Tots, Creative Movement & Rising Stars only one parent or guardian must remain at the dance studio during their child’s class. Children in the Early Childhood Program are often new to a classroom setting and being away from their parents. Children can occasionally become tired, stressed or out of sorts and it is reassuring for them to know that someone is there if they need them. Bathroom trips often become necessary and an instructor cannot leave an entire class to facilitate one child's needs. Nothing is more distressing to a child than looking for an absent parent in a time of need. We are sure that you will agree that this policy has your child best interest at heart. Together we can make their time at JCDA a positive and enriching experience. Children 3 years old and above must be toilet trained. Parent/guardian are required to clean up after their child.

Missed Classes–There are no discounts or refunds for missed classes.

Other-JCDA reserves the right to dismiss any student for failure to comply with studio regulations or for behavioral problems. Tuition and costume payments will not be refunded. Parents must keep JCDA informed of address, telephone and email changes. The policies and procedures may be amended at any time without notice. Changes will be posted onthe website and on the studio bulletin board.

Communication-by providing your email address, home phone number and/or cell number you are agreeing to receive communication from JCDA about classes and activities at the school and your account.I have read and accept the above terms. I will make the above payments by the 1st of the month and will abide by JCDA's policies and procedures. If I pay late or return a check, my account will be charged late fees and may cause my dancer to be suspended from class.Parent/Guardian
